This day marks the birth anniversary of 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐨 𝐇. 𝐝𝐞𝐥 𝐏𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐫, one of the country’s pioneering journalists and a fearless voice for reform during the Spanish colonial era.

Through 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐀𝐜𝐭 𝐍𝐨. 𝟏𝟏𝟔𝟗𝟗, August 30 was declared 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐃𝐚𝐲 in recognition of his legacy and the vital role of a free and responsible press in Philippine society.

Today, we commemorate not only a journalist who dared to write, but a legacy that reminds us:
